For consumer, smart home and automotive applications, accelerate product launch and expand the range of partners 3D products.

Emes semiconductor, a leading global supplier of high-performance sensor solutions, and megapixel, an ai leader, announced today that they have signed a cooperation agreement to jointly develop and promote complete plug and play 3D face recognition solutions suitable for any type of intelligent consumer or business devices.

Under the new memorandum of understanding, the companies hope to create the world's first off-the-shelf face recognition system for smart home, smart retail, smart building and smart security applications, completely independent of user phones. For security reasons, face recognition has quickly become the preferred method of user authentication for mobile phone users. Now, manufacturers of other product types are eager to gain the convenience and security advantages of implementing facial recognition.Emex semiconductor and megatch say it will launch its first solution for the feature by the end of 2019.

Applications and advantages

The integrated solution under development combines emmett's classic vertical resonator surface-emitting laser (VCSEL) emitter module with the depth mapping and face recognition software of vision technology. As a result, the two companies will create the first 3D active stereo solution that provides reliable performance in both indoor and outdoor lighting environments. In addition, the solution will meet high security standards: suitable for use in consumer payment systems such as point-of-sale terminals, for example.

Previously, megapixel and emes semiconductor have successfully developed face recognition solutions suitable for mobile phones. The new solution will be compatible with a wide range of processors from a variety of manufacturers, significantly reducing the development time required to implement face recognition in embedded systems such as intelligent locks, access control devices and payment terminals, reducing risk and workload.
