According to Engadget, a Google spokesperson confirmed that the company has pulled the Daydream VR version of its Google Play Movie & TV app, but users will still be able to watch their rented or purchased content through the YouTube VR app. However, Google is not yet ready to remove other applications from Daydream.

That means there will be one fewer choice of content to watch on Daydream, but the device still supports Netflix, Hulu, Plex and YouTube.Switching from Play Movie & TV to YouTube VR can be annoying because users can't rent or buy directly through the latter app, and there's no dedicated section for them to buy.

Engadget points out that closing the app reflects Google's strategic trend.First, it appears to be scaling back its entertainment options under the Google Play brand.Google Play Music will also disappear and subscribers will migrate to YouTube Music.Google has also shifted its focus from virtual reality to augmented reality, shutting down its Spotlight Stories VR studio, and in recent months announced the closure of Jump VR.
